Susan became the charity’s Medical Research Officer in August 2002. She has a science background and has degree in Biochemistry and a Ph.D. She worked for many years as a research fellow doing laboratory based biomedical research on osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis and myasthenia gravis. She has worked in industry, hospitals and university research laboratories and has held many research grants and published numerous papers on her research work. Her work has included developing reagents for HLA tissue typing, identifying different cell types in bone and work with human bone marrow stem cells. During her career she has worked at the National Institutes of Health in the USA and at an INSERM unit in France.
Her current responsibilities include development of Jeans for Genes International, advising on CGD RT’s research strategy, all aspects of grant funding and management and raising awareness of CGD, gene therapy and related research.
'Working for CGD RT, liaising with our researchers, making sure we fund the best quality projects and helping facilitate research to improve care and treatment of CGD gives me a real buzz. It is such a worthwhile job.'
Susan likes to keep fit by jogging, playing tennis and badminton and is a lover of the outdoors and a keen hiker. She is also a Trustee for a small medical research charity.
