The CGD Research Trust helps people with CGD make the most of life, while funding research to unlock new treatments and cures for CGD, in turn helping solve many other conditions.
Our approach
The CGD Research Trust:
- Funds research into effective treatments and ultimately cures for CGD, which holds the key to solving many other diseases.
- Promotes and publishes the best research into CGD.
- Provides expert support and information for people with CGD, their families and carers.
- Helps build a strong, assertive CGD Community both in the UK and internationally.
- Improves the understanding of CGD by the public and medical professions.
What we believe
We believe our wholehearted commitment to improving daily life and longterm outcomes for people with CGD has already resulted in lifesaving advances. Through sustained funding, collective willpower and scientific and medical excellence, cures will one day be found to make the suffering caused by CGD a thing of the past. We aim to always honour our obligations as a charity and to live up to our reputation as the world’s first and foremost CGD charity.
We recognize that even life-saving research has some complex ethical as well as scientific dimensions, and we encourage open and well informed debate on the best ways forward. We listen especially hard to people with CGD themselves.
Our care services for members resident in the UK include
- Medical advice and care from a specialist CGD nurse
- Help from a clinical psychologist
- Emotional support and listening on the telephone
- Crisis support and preparation for major life events
- Information, via telephone, newsletter and website including latest research findings
- Introductions to others who can help, including CGD families
- Organisation of social and educational events
- Lobbying on behalf of the CGD community
- Raising awareness of CGD through the media and other channels.
